Happy New Year to Everyone January 2012 I don’t know about you but Robin and I have had a wonderful Christmas-New Year period. And now are facing the busy race down to our departure dates! January is always a busy month for us with something just short of a million birthdays. They seem to come around annually – looked forward to by some and endured by others. There are a few other things this month as well - · On the 3rd Andrew and Tricia with Adam, Jessica and Steven (Daniel has had a bad ear and can’t fly) will come and stay for a few days. Desta has been here over Christmas and David and Sylvia with Joshua and Elaine, and Jeff and Jan with Ebony, Annika and Caleb were here on the 27th of December. · On the 4th I will go back to hospital for a couple of minor procedures – a wider excision of an incompletely excised SCC from my ear and release of a trigger finger. · On the 9th-12th I will be in Adelaide to spend a couple of days with my brother and his wife. He is much improved health wise and that is great. · January 16th I have been asked to take part in a wedding. Dr Helen Neman, who did her elective with me in Townsville as a High School student, worked with me in Nambour after her graduation while I was there, and who visited us in Ethiopia, is....

We would like to say to all of you a big ‘thank you’ for your friendship and care during this year. We have a lot of good friends in Ethiopia but there is nothing like contact with friends from one’s home country and past life. So again thank you for hanging in with us. Christmas time is basically a ‘God’ time but it is also a ‘family’ time. We are very happy to report that all of our children and their families are well. We have had the opportunity to see all of them since we arrived home. Some of our boys are getting some grey hair; the grandkids are growing; and there have been the occasional injury and infection – but nothing of serious consequence. · Andrew is the pastor of 2 small churches near Townsville. He also does some lecturing at a Bible College and runs the IT equipment at Annandale Christian School. Tricia basically looks after the home and is a chauffeur. All the children are at school but Adam will in University before we blink if we blink slowly. They are all well. · David is a pastor at the Sunnybank Baptist Church in Brisbane: Sylvia is business manager for her sister’s medical practice and studying Greek and Hebrew. The 3 children are all at Uni and Josh the eldest should graduate next year. He still has the after effects of severe mononucleosis. · Tim and Ally still live in Bowral Village with Tim senior Maths....

January 29th BLH flies out for Addis. I have been appointed the Associate Professor of Surgery at Arba Minch and been asked to consider being the Director of the Department of Surgery. I was asked to take a 5 year contract but at this time have only agreed to sign until the end of July 2014. March – Robin is planning to come to Ethiopia via the Netherlands to see a family. They are friends, supporters and are expecting another baby. She obviously will have a lot to do in the house and as a wife but is planning to be somewhat of a secretary to me as there has also been a suggestion of me having further added administrative responsibilities. December – will bring up our 50th wedding anniversary and we are hoping to come home for that and Christmas.
